We opened our first school in June 2023 to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to orphaned and vulnerable children in our rural village.

Educating Children At-Risk

Educating a vulnerable child is the best way to change their futures. Ensuring they have the opportunity to access and afford a high-quality education is pivotal for their promising future ahead.

Reaching our Neighbors in Need

Outreach is a serious priority for us. We take great pride in being good neighbors. Our greatest gift to our village is mindfulness of their needs so we have committed ourselves to providing resources that grant them better days ahead.

We’re eliminating poverty in our village through education.

Education cannot be reduced to schooling. It is a holistic experience shaped by opportunity, access, quality of learning, and parental support. The absence of those today in our community shapes our mission to provide educational equity. Simply put, we want to level the playing field for at-risk children in our village so that they can obtain a high-standard education, enter the workforce, and access better life outcomes as a sure way out of poverty.

Dedicated to Sustainable Change.

The word GEN (pronounced "gehn") is the Acholi word for ‘TRUST’ or ‘HOPE’. Acholi is the tribal language of Northern Ugandan people, including the children and community we care for, and our co-founder, Ocen.

Derived from the Bible verse Psalm 37:3, our full name, Gen House, reflects our drive and culture all in one: To trust Him, to do good, to dwell in the land, and
to feed on His faithfulness.

Indeed, we’ve done that every single year. Since our founding in 2016, we’ve committed to rebuild this once-war torn village suffering from subpar resources and minimal government support. We know we can’t save our village, but we are confident that with each faith-filled step, we can supply critical resources to meet the daily needs of our vulnerable neighbors.

Today, we have acquired 35.5 acres of land that supplies clean water through a borehole drilled in our community, a church for weekly worship and fellowship, fertile acres for subsistence and commercial farming, and our first school— preschool— opening in February 2023. As we continue to expand, our mission remains: to holistically transform the lives of our neighbors through Christian education and irreversible hope for their futures.
