Gen House is a community development program that cares for orphans and their village. We believe that our children should grow up in a family and a flourishing community. Gen House is an umbrella of development with several projects under it that will radically transform our village and improve the lives of our children.
the village
Our home sits on a very lush plot of 35.5 acres in a small, rural village called Acutomer. This place is former LRA War territory that greatly contributed to the alarming numbers of orphans in Northern Uganda. With a permanent presence here to care for orphans and the community, we can fill the gaps of sub-par development and restore the essence of this once-thriving village.
the children’s home
The most important need for an orphan is family; not basic needs, and certainly not another orphanage. In the year 2021, we broke ground to build a transitional home for orphaned children, providing immediate relief and sustainable, long-term care until they can be reunited with their families or fostered by other, local Ugandans; consequentially decreasing the number of orphans and increasing hope throughout the village.
clean water
This is the first jerry can to collect water from our borehole drilled in December 2018. It is our prayer that more of the community will come and experience the tangible love of Jesus through the provision of clean water in our village. This water has also been used as a water source during the construction of our first children’s home that began in 2021.
THE CHURCH
The Word Community Church is a new church plant in our village, Acut Omer, headed by our Co-Founder and Evangelist, Ocen Francis. Considering the 45-minute driving distance to the nearest church, we were eager to offer The Gospel in an accessible and transformative way to our neighbors. This dedication to sharing Christ allows us to train up disciples through sound preaching, trauma-healing counseling, local outreach, and preaching to South Sudanese, Acholi peoples currently living in a refugee camp of Northern Uganda.
